The Pringles Index (2026-10)
Last checked 27 October 2026What one can of Pringles Original costs in 30 countries, in US dollars per 100 g.
Pringles are sold in almost the same can around the world, which makes them a handy, if crunchy, way to compare prices around the world. Like The Economist’s Big Mac Index, this is a light-hearted guide to price levels and exchange rates, not a precise measure. Every price below is linked to its source.
A can of Pringles costs 2.5× more in Turkey than in the US
Per 100 g, Pringles Original costs $3.96 in Turkey against a US baseline of $1.61 (a 147.4 g can at Walmart’s regular price of $2.38; Target $2.49, Kroger $2.50–2.59). The cheapest markets in this edition are India and France at about $1.08. 30 markets, prices checked 2026-10-27.
The Map
Colour = index vs US (100). Green is cheaper than the US and red is pricier. Grey means not in this edition.
The Ranking
USD per 100 g: the fair comparison, because can sizes run from 102 g to 195 g.
Over- or Undervalued? (Big Mac Index style)
If 100 g of Pringles should cost the same everywhere, how far is each currency from that “Pringles parity”? Red bars mean Pringles are pricier than in the US at today’s exchange rate, which by the Big Mac logic makes the currency look overvalued. Green bars mean cheaper, so the currency looks undervalued. Taxes, import duties and local competition matter at least as much, so treat this as a conversation starter, not a currency forecast.
What Stands Out
- Turkey is the most expensive market: about $3.96–4.20 per 100 g across two retailers (Trendyol 325 TL, Hepsiburada 345 TL), roughly 2.5× the US price. Pringles are imported, and prices move fast with inflation.
- India and France are cheapest, at about $1.08 per 100 g: France sells a 195 g can at a €1.89 regular price at Intermarché (taken from a promo leaflet’s “prix habituel”; Carrefour sells a 175 g can at €2.05–2.09), and India’s figure is the legal maximum retail price.
- United Kingdom: the regular price is £2.50, but the same can is £1.75 at Morrisons and Iceland and £1.00 at Poundland. Promotions matter.
- Germany: the can shrank from 185 g to 165 g in 2024 at the same €2.49 (Verbraucherzentrale Hamburg).
Pringles are cheapest in France and India, but you don’t have to fly there for the flavours. Try an international chip variety pack at home.
Methodology
Updated 29 Oct 2026: corrected US base price source, Hungary pack size, removed Colombia. Colombia was removed on 29 Oct 2026 pending verification of pack size and regular price.
- One standard can of Pringles Original at its regular (non-promotional) retail price, including VAT/GST where prices are shown with tax. US prices exclude sales tax. We use one main source per country: usually a supermarket or online grocer, but some rows come from a price comparison site, a marketplace listing, a promo leaflet’s regular price or the legal maximum retail price (India). Each row names its source and price type.
- Pack-size rule: Use the market's standard can closest to 165 g, at the regular shelf price (not a promo or loyalty-card price).
- Local price ÷ can weight × 100 = local price per 100 g, converted to USD at the market rate.
- Index vs US = country USD/100 g ÷ US USD/100 g × 100.
- Ex-VAT view (optional, below the sources table): shelf price ÷ (1 + the VAT/GST rate on potato crisps), so tax differences can be separated from price differences. The headline index stays on shelf prices.
- Implied PPP rate = the rate that would make 100 g cost the same as in the US; valuation = implied rate ÷ actual rate − 1.
One main source per country, one point in time: a snapshot, not a statistical average. FX: ECB reference rates, 26 Oct 2026 (RUB and EGP: national rates of 23 Oct 2026; AED: fixed USD peg). Prices collected: 27 Oct 2026; US, Hungary, Switzerland, India, France and Turkey re-checked 29 Oct 2026. * Low confidence: a range, marketplace, undated or possibly promotional price. These are shown but can be hidden with the toggle.

Price excluding VAT / sales tax
Optional view. Ex-VAT $/100 g = shelf $/100 g ÷ (1 + VAT rate applied to potato crisps). US prices are shown before state sales tax (which varies by state; many states exempt groceries), so the US ex-tax price equals the shelf price; Canadian shelf prices also exclude GST/HST. Rates checked 29 Oct 2026 against tax-authority sources; unconfirmed rates could not be verified officially, and a dash means no rate was applied.
📅 Next edition: planned for January 2027. We aim to add Singapore (only multipacks were found this time) and Colombia (the pack size couldn’t be verified).
FAQs
Where are Pringles most expensive?
In this 2026-10 edition, Turkey: $3.96 per 100 g, about 2.5 times the US price of $1.61 per 100 g (a second retailer, Hepsiburada, gives $4.20).
Where are Pringles cheapest?
India and France, both at about $1.08 per 100 g. India’s figure is the legal maximum retail price, and France’s 195 g can sells at a €1.89 regular price.
Why compare per 100 g instead of per can?
Pringles cans differ by market, from about 102 g in parts of Asia to 165 g in most of Europe and 195 g in France, so comparing whole cans would be misleading.
How reliable is the Pringles Index?
It uses one main source per country at one point in time, a snapshot rather than an average. Low-confidence rows (ranges, marketplace or undated prices) are marked with an asterisk and can be hidden.
